Pros and cons of Davis Drug Guide For Nurses app for iPhone and iPad

Davis Drug Guide For Nurses app good for

I have great first impressions with this app! Its easy to navigate, the layout is user friendly and provides more information compared to the skyscape version. This app includes the BEERS criteria, information on the drug classification, IV compatibility charts, useful calculators... etc. The downfall of this app is the yearly subscription. 5 stars if the $49.99 was a one-time thing. Overall, Im happy with the app and will be finding it extremely convenient and useful in my workplace!
This is an awesome drug guide it has every thing you could think of. Easy to follow with no known problems and way Easier to deal with than the book version so a+ for this app
This app is amazing! Esp for a urgent care nurse. So easy to use and read with only pertinent info.
I use this app all the time at work but I wish it would update through the app store and not independently. That can be a real inconvenience for that little pop up every time the app is opened until you can get around to updating it.

Some bad moments

I was not impressed when I found out that you need to pay 38.99 EVERY YEAR for just the update. What a rip off considering the drug guide is not that great to begin with!
This app needs a major makeover. Medication navigation is complicated, you have to search meds by name. You cant scroll or browse through them like you can on the Unbound App for this same book. My suggestion? Davis needs to eliminate this app completely and contract out Unbound for the annual subscription. I would have rather had access to their app for this same book than use this one.
I paid $40 for this and then after a year it locked me out of the app and said I need to update my subscription, for another $40. Youd think that youd get the keep your old drug guide and just not get updates, but they stop you from using the app if you dont pay $40 every year.
This app WAS incredibly helpful getting through nursing school. The "nursing implications" and "patient education" sections were ideal for the beginning nurse. The app also made searching for medications easy (most of the time). You have to spell the drug correctly, and sometimes the search function wouldnt work if you input the brand name. That meant I had to do a google search for the generic name, to find the medication. (That defeats most of the purpose of having this drug guide in the first place IMO) All things considered, it WAS a solid app. Heres the catch... I hope you like paying 40 bucks every year for a new one! Unlike a book, you dont own this app; you are leasing it. We all agree that having access to the most up to date information is imperative in the practice of medicine... but if that was the case, practically every drug guide book would be obsolete the minute it was printed. If I want the most up to date information, I will use whatever drug information system my facility mandates I use. But most of the time, I just want a quick reference to a drug classification, or to see possible interactions, or to understand its off-label uses. This drug guide WAS perfect for that. Bottom line: you already have you phone out... just google it. If you need a more reliable resource, use the one your facility has already paid for. Or, find a PDF version of the same book and keep it on your phone.
I still think 49.99 is expensive but it has all the information I need for clinicals
I was using Daviss Drug guide for years and was mostly satisfied. I decided to try another drug book and I chose this one. It is way better!! This drug guide gives a much more comprehensive explaination of each medication. Also, this app lists herbal products and almost every vitamin under the sun.
